The “Pineapple Express” is here. If you live on the West Coast, you’re sure to have noticed the recent heavy rainfall and mild temperatures. While much of the drought stricken west is relieved to have the rain, many places have endured flooding. What is the cause of all this wacky weather?
Meteorologist call it an atmospheric river, and NOAA has released an amazing GIF showing this environmental phenomenon in action. These rivers of moist air are truly immense, capable of carrying more than 15 times as much water as the Mississippi river.
